questions about this dissapointing game SPOILERS: if anyone for whatever reason hasn't finished the game yet you might want to stop reading.
I finished this game a while ago but recently went digging through my rpg stash. I stumbled across ff10 2 and remembered how EGM magazine was obsessed with it. I wanted to see if I was the only person dissapointed with the game and I'm happy to see I'm not. It failed on so many levels that I was shocked how many people loved it at first. Theres a reason I never wanted a sequel to FF7, because I was afraid Square would completely change the cast's personalities. I was happy the first experimental sequel was with ff10. Also the story intrigued me. Tidus might be alive somewhere and a giant machina secretely built to defeat sin has decided to activate itself. I was hoping to see the same old Yuna. Unfortunately ff10 2 confirmed some of these fears. In addition to that it failed in a lot of other areas and left me with a lot of questions.
-1.Who was this game supposed to appeal to?
This bugs me the most. It seems like Square wanted to appeal to a large number of people yet in the end just mucked it up for everyone. There target audience seemed to be 10 year old girls and horny young teenage boys. It seems like the dialogue, and a large number of sidequests, were meant to appeal to young female gamers. Some of it just seemed to childish for anyone, why is everyones new favorite word 'poopie'? Why is Rikku always pawing at the air like an idiot? Why the Charlies Angels feel? Then they try to appeal to guys by having the female leads dressed scantily and having a massaging mini game. Square also didn't want to leave out aldut gamers. They've got some violent CG scenes and some flashbacks to a massacre in a cave. I don't know WHO they thought would like Brother and the incest sideplot. Cmon, I know she's hot but she's your cousin dude!!!!!! Seriously, who were they trying to appeal to?
-2. WHY do they have to butcher their characters?
I can look past the guns and the dress. Yuna can't summon Aeons anymore and she is no longer a preistess. I can even look past the freakishly long pony tail. But did they have to give her personality a make over as well? She USED to be one of my favorite female video game characters but ff10 2 made me lose a ton of respect for her. Why does she have to take Rikku as her role model and turn into something of an idiot? She does a lot of things really out of character. I find it hard to believe that the shyest most humble girl in Spira is now a pop singer for peace and loves to run around yelling compelling dialogue such as 'poopie' and that was 'dissasterific!' One thing that made me dislike her was when Kimari (I think thats the catman dudes name) was in an uproar that a bounty hunter syndicate was defiling his peoples most holy site/hot springs. Yuna seems outraged as well that the syndicate would use such a holy site as a personal hot tub yet when she drives them away she decides to betray Kimaris trust and take a dip herself! We then are treated to a scene where those blue Hypello things give her a rub down. If they decide to give Cloud a personality overhaul in Advent Children I might just kill myself.
-3.Why is the world so small..... and the same?
Besides Yuna's metamorphasis this annoyed me the most. What I loved about ff10 was the map feature. It wouldn't let you fly around the world map making ff10's world seem bigger than past ff games. When I heard that ff10 was going to have a sequel with 50% of it being sidequests I was thrilled. I thought we'd get to see a lot more of the world that wasn't on the Summoner's trail. Wrong.....WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Turns out ff10 showed us the whole world or, at least, in ff10 2 Yuna didn't want to go anywhere new. Also why does everything look the same? In the first game Wakka tells Tidus the villages are all so primative because people are afraid sin will just destroy permanent structures. Okay it's 3 years after the fall of sin, why the hell is the Besaid map exactly the same?!!!!! I mean come on Square, I know you just wanted a quick cash in but couldn't you have covered your tracks a little better?
-4. Wheres the respect?
In most games the majority of the world doesn't know the good deeds performed by your main character and the story ends right after the defeat of the main baddy. I thought it would be pretty cool to play a character who saved the world (and everyone knew it). Unfortunately no one seems to care, at least not until (ugh) Yunapalooza at the end. No one seems to care, in fact a lot of them are more interested in hiring some yahoo for their mundane crappy jobs. Jobs Yuna loves to apply for because apparently being a high summoner doesn't pay well. Then there are the 2 new factions. The faction you don't join in this game tries to kill you. Thats just plain stupid, why kill your savior? Also why is there even a NEW Yevon group? Sure I know there was a large conservative element/mind set in Spira but naming your new organization after the trechorous Sin/Yevon? I didn't follow it.
Woah, I wanted to complain more but I've been writing for nearly 15-20 minutes. Sorry for the long rant. If anyone actually read this crap I commend you.
If you really liked this game please answer some of the above questions. I'd really like to know your thoughts.

Re: questions about this dissapointing game I liked the game but it wasn't anywhere near as good as 10.
i have no clue who the game was sopose to appeal to either.
They did kill yuna's character and to make it even worse they turned her into rikku in 10 and then decided to make rikku even more annoying. i forgot about yuna and brother being cousins, hes just a freak.
i was also disapointed about the world map being nearly identical and to make things even worse you couldn't even go to omega ruins. they did make kilika a lot better though but they should of improved the rest of the world aswell.
the real yuna would never go againest kimhari like that, hes been protecting her for years.
Sorry for the long rant. If anyone actually read this crap I commend you.

… When I first heard about it, I heard it was bad. But I wanted to try it out myself, at the first play through I liked it. Only because it was a sequel to one of my favourite games. But it has no replay value, and I didn't really like the whole Charlie's Angel's thing. For some reason I really disliked it the second time through, it felt so corny. There wasn't much of a story to it, only the Shuin and Lenne thing(which I liked), but the rest was just sidequests and singing/dancing/corny speeches. They could have done alot better with this game, or just left FFX alone. Sequel's usualy ruin series, and I hope they don't ruin FFVII too, or all hope in hell is lost. Lol.
Re: questions about this dissapointing game I wish I could say something that would sound smart, but I can't. Just that I can completely agree. It's fun to be able to talk to your old friends and all, but that just keeps me amused for maybe an hour or so. Just the intro made me realise what an incredible wast of money this was
Re: questions about this dissapointing game I must say I disagree with some of the opinions here, I got to admit I am not to found of the game FFX-2 but thats not what I disagree with. I disagree with whats being said about its all Square Enix fault, and things has gone badly since SquareSoft and Enix merged together, don't forgot that they maked FF X which was just awesome, yeah the sequel was bad.
