Re: Wikipedia: Love it or Hate it? I hate wikipedia, its always filled wrong information, because some douche who thinks he's smart. I cant tell you how many times I;ve had to edit !@#$ on there, speciall in the naruto and Mk sections...
Like, I have people keep trying to post 'Pong' as a aplayable character in MK, and that Sasuke cant use CHidori, aka Lightning Blade

Re: Wikipedia: Love it or Hate it? Depends. From stuff i've found on there, its pretty reliable (maybe because people have ripped it almost word for word off other sites) but i actually pressed a few buttons and winded up on the edit page... i could've typed anything in there, for the hell of doing it, or deleted stuff and added in random crap. It's a good idea and it has TONS of information, is helpful at times but i don't trust it...
... and it doesn't help that most of what you google now will have a Wiki article on the first page of searching. I'd rather look through several webpages instead of going onto Wiki and finding everything crammed into one article.
I just remembered actually, i found a really good article (shock, shock horror!) about... the 4 chinese mythological creatures that guard n/e/s/w or something, saved it to favourites because it was really helpful and !@#$, went back two weeks later and someone had edited it and changed all the damn information. Nothing was the same as the one i read two weeks before, and it was very confusing.
How am I supposed to trust and use a site that provides information that's liable to change every month?

Re: Wikipedia: Love it or Hate it? Some of us go on Wikipedia for more serious topics than anime. Occasionally I make the odd edit where there is a typo or a mistake, but I avoid editing on there. I can spend a lot of time on there though, it is addictive.
My only real complaint about it is its very American-centred on the English language. I know Americans have a problem with recognising that there is a world outside of their borders including the country that invented their language but it gets on my wick sometimes.

Re: Wikipedia: Love it or Hate it? lol Good old Ace...I haven't seen you make an I hate all americans post in awhile.
I'm not sure where Wiki was created or where it's main servers are, but I'm guessing that most of the users are from the US if that is the preferred spelling and grammar of the English based Wiki sight. Deal with it or make a similar sight that uses only British English.
You will also need to learn a bit about languages. Even within the UK, there are dialects. Languages evolve based on a number of factors, and even the language that was spoken by the first Anglo Saxons went through many changes, including a large number of French loan words (most all words in teh English language involving government are French.) Our articles are Slavic in origin, and the language went through a forced Latinization when it was the preferred language of polticis and academia. To claim that one group of people "invented " it is silly. It mainly evolved as events unfurled, just as English spoken in the the US has diverged from that used in England. Australians, the South Africans, and Canadians, also have their own unique dialects. It's just a rule of how languages evolve.
As for Wiki, so long as you stay away from topics where people tend to get egos (politics, anime, videogames) it tends to be quite sufficient for a fundamental understanding on things.
Re: Wikipedia: Love it or Hate it? I've found that most of the info on anime is pretty accurate when i've looked at it. It's general knowledge articles that tick me off. Fair enough if someones kind enough to sneak in a edit out typos or sentances that shouldn't be there, but changing an entire article is a bit extreme. Its like ripping a page out of a normal Encyclopedia and replacing it with whatever you feel should be in there. Nought wrong with the content. Just the editing.

I hate wikipedia, its always filled wrong information, because some douche who thinks he's smart. I cant tell you how many times I;ve had to edit **** on there, speciall in the naruto and Mk sections...

You hate wikipedia yet you remain to stay and use your precious time editing articles
Have you also considered the possibility that your information may not be as acurate as you beleve it to be.

Just as you would with any other site. Any information you obtain from the internet or anywhere else for that matter will not always be 100% reliable. One should always try and check from more than one source to confirm how reliable there information is.

I agree.

Should have saved it on to your computer lol. You have to remember though that any information held on the site is only thanks to the individual or a gathering of individuals that where willing to share what ever knowledge they had to the world. The site is nothing more than pure information gathered collectively from people across the globe.
Everyone has the right then to edit the information accordingly to how they perceive it to be.
Though due to anybody having the privilege to edit any article in the wikipedia means that you will have people who will alter, destroy or put unrelated spam. to any information. There will always be undesirables. Not so much diffrent than the real world itself.

This isn't a a normal encyclopedia. It may be extreme but that is entirly up to the individual that is changeing the article. Some whole articles may be wrong entirely and should be changed, it may not seem extreme to the person as he dissagrees with the information.
Though i would say that if it was possible that wikipedia should store all information that was edited or changed on any article.
Anyone should be weary on all information they obtain and not always asume that the information they find is true or untrue.

You took it way too seriously :p but the fact is the non-US English users have to put up with it.

Re: Wikipedia: Love it or Hate it? I like Wikipedia ^_^ it helps and I dont think anyone would update it with their oppinion in all seriousness. They do have officals that update the site and change things, I saw one at the Therion (band) board and he was asking to update and was told to contact the webmaster etc.
