Honestly, this has been an issue since the early 90's when Mortal Kombat first came out to arcade. People would try the violent actions in the game, and the game would be to blame. Now, we have a game that's been out since the mid 90's, suddenly being labeled a 'killer game' because two pricks wanted to use code names to comit crimes? Give me a !@#$ break. The media, and people in general need to grow the !@#$ and up realize that video games dont kill people, people kill people. I mean seriously, are they going to add something new to the autopsy, "Death by Video Gamer"

Yeah exactly, millions of people have played FF7 and its been out for like 10 years. Then something like this happens once and its labelled "Killer game"?

People always like to blame the media for wrong doings.

FmF hit the nail on the head, people kill people. They didn't stab the people with the disks, did they? No, so don't pin the blame on the game. The game's hardly a murder weapon. Its the person(s) who did the crime you should be worried about.

Even if they did, blaming whats ON the disc is stupid! If I took a box and whacked it over someone head, would they blame the contents of the box too?

Read on another site, and I am in full agreement with it. That this game promotes more environmentalism, heroism, and self-confidence than anything voilent.

Though i was telling someone about this just now and they looked really bemused when i started telling them about the Shinra/planet/avalanche story because they didn't understand how the enviromentalism bit was in the game. Think it just needs clearing up that there was nothing wrong with the game in the first place, it was the two teenagers. They just happened to use those alias' that linked them to the game. Had no connection to the murders.

Well environmentalism means work towards protecting the environment. And the game is about helping to save the world from the evil corporation Shinra from sucking up the planet's energy, so basically saving the environment in which they're in. The person your talking to should play the game and maybe they'd understand. emoticon

Hmm I never thought about it that way but most rpg's usually promote heroism and other good qualities. Even many FPS's pit the player against some sort of evil which they must defeat. Anyway its quite idiotic to blame what people do on games. I could just as easily blame violent movies or television. The only reason these people complain about violence in games is because they wanna push their own agenda. I mean I can see some games being violent but FF7 isn't really an example of that in my opinion. Sure there is fighting and such but it is never graphically displayed as it would be in others. Its really just a sad excuse some people try to use in order to cover up other flaws such as bad parenting and other things.

Stupid kids...

I hate seeing stuff like this happen, it's one thing when it happens with a music scene, thats been going on for years now, but when it starts happening in the gaming community its terrible which makes me wonder, is it true that they discontinued FFVII in the U.S.?
