Another great Saturn image

I just had to share this gorgeous image:

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070306.html

If you click on it and you can see an even larger version where you can make out a few of Saturn's moons. Seeing images like this kills me becuase I probably won't ever go there myself. I'm so glad our scientists can work together rather well and not be held back too much by all the stupid things their countries fuss about.

Beautiful stuff, Gren!
I think I've seen that one only recently, but it gorgeous enough to warrant a second viewing. The rings look so well formed, so... singular. I know that certainly isn't the case, but they look like they're formed out of whole rings as opposed to whirling hunks of rock and ice.

I'll see your Saturn image, and raise you a scale of universal bodies. It's a small world after all. Compared to VV Cephei, a VERY small world.

Check it out. (link.)

The music is a snippet from Gustav Holst's "Jupiter," a part of his orchestral suite "The Planets." I love "Jupiter", and I stumbled on this whilst looking for a clip of the song. A good find, I think.

Yeah that was nice little clip. It sure does put things into perspective. A good shot of Andromeda as well. The amazing part about that galaxy is that you can see it with the naked eye if yer in a dark enough spot. Considering its about 2.5 million light years away thats quite amazing. Nice music as well, I'll have to find the whole thing.

Check out this one of Saturn's moon Titan. Looks like a lake to me. http://www.universetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/2007-0301lakes.jpg

This ain't Saturn but rather than posting a new thread here's a great shot of Io and Europa from the New Horizons spacecraft. The blue cloud you see over Io is apparently a volcanic plume. If you look real close you can see a few red pixels near its base which represents the glow of lava. Pretty cool stuff.

The first image: Just wow. I forgot exactly how i was gunna phase the 'wow', but its something along those lines.

The video was pretty unbelievable. Put things in perspective though. And i recognised a couple of the kanji. emoticon

Don't normally go and hunt down this type of stuff either, but its interesting. At first glance i would never of thought that was a volcanic plume on the first moon.

It really is amazing.. I'd like to go into space one day. Shame it'll never happen. emoticon

Watched that vid too, wow. Our minds can't really comprehend with how large the universe is, we're just a spec. There's SO MUCH out there.. emoticon
