Kinda creepy...

Dunno about you but the irony of that is quite amusing. I know we have cameras over here but nowhere near the scale that Britain seems to have. So what is everyone's opinion on this?? I don't mind a few cameras here and there but I think too many is a tad too invasive.

I really don't like them, my mum think their a good idea. emoticon Think she's one of the few people i know that likes them.

Strange thing is, walking around Plymouth city centre where i tend to go for sat. day, you have NO idea where the damn things are placed. Then you watch the news and they show actual footage from the camera, and you realise a) How well hidden some are b) Just how much they can see.

I don't mind the odd camera here and there to monitor actual crime, but seeing so many watching so many people...

Maybe for a different argument, "It doesn't matter if your not doing anything wrong!"

Cept the few with speakers on will bark instructions at you if you litter. "The person in the dark shirt, you are violating public whats-it, please pick up your litter and place it in a bin. Thank you."

 And in the newspaper they made a big deal out of this one;

"You in the dark clothing. Please put down the traffic cone and continue on your way. Yes, you! Thank you." Think he was trying to smash up a telephone box with it.

Yeah thats my thoughts exactly. I don't mind a few but I think the amount the article quoted was just ridiculous. How long before they start tagging everyone so they can track us with gps technology?

Does anyone know how much of an effect this has had on crime? I would think it would deter some people but I wonder just how much of an impact.

I completey agree with you guys its a bit too invasive but I can see why they'd help or why some might like the idea.

I live in London pretty much so I'm sure A LOT of the cameras are here.

I don't really like the idea of being watched all the time.. emoticon

I read in a newspaper article that out of 100% of cameras in the world monitoring people 20% of them are in britain.

The labour party asumes it is the best way to tackle crime and are still installing more cameras around britain. Scotland isn't so bad but then again we only have around 5 million people compared to 55 million in England. Still the amount of cameras we have in Scotland is unnecessary in many parts.

I haven't visted England except for passing through to go abroad. Though when i was down in London the cameras there are immense! I was at a train station in kings cross. I fixated my position and counted over 44 cameras just on the spot. London puts me off completly

As for detering crime i don't think the camras have a huge impact whatsoever on lowering crime.

What a complete waste of government spending. We are one of the worst countries for paying tax on almost everything except the air we breath which might come soon emoticon

There supposed to increase security, but if they ever backfire will seriously undermine the nations security causing a massive breach.

I'm not too keen on them myself. I always feel as though I'm being watched, but isn't it because we are being watched. Cameras are everywhere-In the front of ATMs, in shops, in public areas, on the sides of buildings and (not speed cameras) cameras recording every single car that goes on most major roads.

I suppose it might be (might be) worse without them, but it seems to be over the top. Who knows what they might be using them for or where they could be hiding them?

Not to get paranoid though, you'll be fine unless you're doing something dubious.
