Military Matters
I was watching Battlestar Galactica yesterday, with my friend on the phone, and we began to discuss a problem that had arisen in the show. The problem is as follows: On board the main battleship of the fleet an enemy agent infiltrated and then detonated a bomb strapped to himself. There was a big rucus about how he got in, where did he get the bomb, etc....and a tribunal was formed to question those aboard the battleship about where they were, what were they doing during the bombing and even prior to the event. All that is eventually solved but in the end we find out that the person in charge of repairing the fighters, and making rounds aboard the vessel, was having a relationship with another pilot. Because of this he was neglecting some of his duties, and as a result, had left open a hatch that should have been closed. He confesses this to the ship's Captain and the Captain then reprimands him for being in a relationship.
This brought up a point that is open to debate. Should military personnel be allowed to have relationships with other personnel in the military??? And by "relationship" I do mean having a sexual relationship.
Here are some of the pros and cons we thought of if relationships were allowed:
Pros:
- People will probably be happier
- The emotional bonds created through a relationship will improve combat performance
- It gives people a reason to fight
Cons:
- Some people will probably not even form relationships but rather use this as an excuse to have sex
- Possibility of someone becoming pregnant.
- People negelcting their duties
Feel free to add your own thoughts.

My response: I think Targos's fate hinges on how much Shawford can pay us from the Targos treasury.

Re: Military Matters
Yeah, ultimatly, if you are in a relationship in a high risk job, like the military, death of one parter can cause anything from suicide to kamakazi.
Unless their division/army/whatever happens to be in a really tight spot where they have 50 50 chance of surviving ( or less ), they tend to be alot more lienient, and allow sexual relationships. Overwise, its frowned upon cause it can and will effect them, whether its in a good or bad way depends on the couple. It tends to be a moral booster, but could effect others ( I'm sure us loners know how it feels to get pissed off when we see a couple making out in towns, like theres no one else there ).
Is this the ( modern ) show Battlestar galactica ? If it is the modern one, wouldnt have seen it, think its only showing on sky 1 at the moment.
