Italian forces to pull out of Iraq There is strong support from Italy to move its troops out of Iraq, and will do starting from september. Although its not confirmed, it appears that the death of the italian special forces dude that just rescued or retrieved an italian from rebels was the deciding factor. This is another attack by america on its supposed allies.
What is it that makes america so trigger happy at attacking ANYONE. It's been a problem since world war 2, if not before, will no one in the US military actually deal with this problem ?

Re: Italian forces to pull out of Iraq You really crack me up Ace. Lets look at the situation.
I'm in a warzone, a car is driving towards me, I tell it to stop, yet it fails to comply.
I could:
a.) do nothing and let an unknown vehicle draw closer to myself, which increases my chance of dying, and endangers all those around me to harm.
b.) open fire on the vehicle and neutralize any threat it might contain.
I'd be more inclined to choose option A, not just for my sake but more for the people around me.

You can neutralize vechicles without killing the occupants though.
Oh, and I heard the other day the yanks have done it again, another european killed by accident. This is just stupid, they are killing off allies "by accident" almost every day now.

Shouldn't this be in the general chat?
There was a question, but it seems like no ones picked up on it. Ah well.

I said it was a warzone. Sure you could take out the car's tires but what if the occupants then pull out an RPG??? In these kinds of situations you have to assume the worst, otherwise you, your fellow soldiers, and innocent bystanders, will be at risk.
I'm sure we've also killed our own soldiers via friendly fire. We aren't specially targetting other people based on their ethnicity. That is a ridiculous notion.
Shouldn't this be in the general chat?
I'd say no, seeing as things with political overtones usually wind up as debates.

Re: Italian forces to pull out of Iraq This situation was dreadfully unfortunate, and was a terrible thing to hear on the news.
After negotiating the release of a left-wing Italian journalist, a skilled Italian diplomat made his way to the airport with the freed journalist. When they reached the airport, American troops opened fire. The journalist was injured, the diplomat was killed shielding her from the bullets.
You can look at this in two schools of thought....
1) The Americans really should have checked the vehicle properly before opening fire on the unidentified car. It is 'jumping the gun' (please forgive the pun) and an innocent life was lost.
2) It's very hard not to take chances in what is essentially a high risk area. An unidentified car coming towards you in a sector of the world prone to hosting exploding cars is a cause for concern.
Of course the Americans aren't targeting allies. Perhaps their (not just Americans, but all militaries in general) protocol needs to be tightened. Telephoning the base, or keeping in contact via radio would be a good idea, (this is probably done already, but in all cases when nearing a lockdown zone, extra precaution should be taken) as well as sending a description of the car.
One life needlessly wasted is one too many, so all militiant forces need to survey their protocol regularly.
--- Prima: "If we waste any more time on 'weeaboo', we'll be bankrupt by the end of the month!"
Secunda: "Did someone just say 'weeaboo?' Because I heard someone say 'weeaboo'."
Persons 2-10: "Wee-a-boo! Wee-a-boo!"
Re: Italian forces to pull out of Iraq Thanks Arbiter, you actually described the situation for us who don't exactly spend our time in world news, instead of just saying "Hey that thing happened today" and not saying anything about it.
Yes that is a tragic thing to have happened. I'd say it's not just the American's fault though. Though it partially is, I'd say everyone involved could take a part of the blame.
Everyone in that area should have been well informed of the vehicle's approach way in advance. If you're expecting a certain kind of car to come, then when it comes you won't be supprised. It's human nature in those kind of situations to think about your survival first, it's just instinct(no matter what part of the world you come from, we're all human).
The soldiers were merely supprised, and it's never a good idea to supprise someone with a gun in their hand. Though the soldiers may have been a bit hasty in their judgement, they were only doing what their instincts told them to do. I'm sure they didn't mean to kill their own allies, if they did they'd have been shipped home already because they would have killed more than one person. Accidents happen, it's a fact of life. Though this one shouldn't have happened, lets just hope they'll learn from this one.
