Manchester United taken over by an American One of the most popular football clubs: Manchester United, has now been taken over by Glazer, american millionaire. He finaly got 75% of the shares by buying up small bits, and so now can make any decission he wants about what to do with the club.
This is sickening for people like me, its like my country is some form of monopoly game for americans, its bad enough invading countries, but buying up allies is worse. Our news broadcasters, industries, supermarkets, and now a start of our sport clubs, are all in ownership of americans, this is going too far.

Maybe your going a bit too far Mike because of your anti-american attitude. I mean just because an American is taking over a football team in England shouldn't be the end of the world. Although I think because football over here is completey different and it would be better if Brits lead them, I don't care about Football at all and to me its far too over-rated.
I mean its not like this country is going to be run by Americans, football is a game (even though to men its a religion).
Re: Manchester United taken over by an American But its not just football teams though, it really is our tv channels, supermarkets, our industries. We are being eaten up by american's rich. Privatisation is one thing, but half our country is in ownership of the US, its rediculas. Ok, sure they can own some of our stuff, I'm sure there is british businessmen with companies in the US, but when its swallowing the whole market ( only Tesco or something is actualy owned by a different company from the rest of them ) its getting too bad.

Re: Manchester United taken over by an American Its not so much of things being americanised, but owned by americans. All our supermarkets are owned by american companies, I think its Tesco is owned by Walmart, and ALL the other major ones are owned by another american company. Their stealing our stuff cause their buying the rights ! They own them, so they can do what they want with them.
Also, look at stuff like our programs and adverts, its always an american accent on them, or its always based in some backward state in the US, a good portion of our TV is american stuff which they've exported over here ( its starting to change back again, thankfully ).
Theres gunna have to be a liberation from american ownership at somepoint, we need to be able to own our own country if we're ever gunna sort it out.

They are the world's super power and I think they want all the other countries to be like them, and because Tony Blair kisses George Bush's ass all the time hes going to do what they want anyway.
I don't mind if theres American stuff on tv, just as much as I don't mind any other countries stuff on tv. Aslong as it remains mainly British I'm happy.

I would be very pissed if the Orioles were bought by some from Britain, though maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea considering the present owner. Anyhow this seems to fit more into globalization to me. I'm not too concerned with who the owner is, because sometimes that really doesn't matter. The owner might technically own the business but as long as the important decisions are left to people who are natives to that area/country then there really isn't much different at all. I dunno how it is over there but hopefully they'll change it back to the way Ace described, because I know if things started to change here I would be pissed as well.
