Centrist Americans ?

I know I've been negative about americans at every moment I can, so I'll make something abit more positive instead.

In 1997, the New Labour Party won in the UK, it wasnt right winged , it wasnt paticularly left either. Somehow a centrist party won, with a very large majority, and admittedly, despite my dislike for alot of the things the party has done, they have improved the country in some ways because they were able to ignore the two wings, and decide things much more quickly.

The US still has a left and right wing party, which soaks up 99% of the vote, and I think you'd agree that at times, because both sides are so different on paticular issues, middle ground would very much be preffered. How would you americans, those with political awareness, think about the idea of a central party, one that can develop without senseless arguement, one that isnt so reliant on biased beliefs, and act much quicker when its needed.

Would it work ? Would you vote for them ? Do you think others would vote for them ? Do you think it could make a difference, and thin out the political spectrum so theres more choice in elections ? Would you welcome a third main party ? or does two keeps it cleaner ?

I think it would be a good idea. I've talked to a lot of people who weren't fond of either Bush or Kerry. They eventually wound up voting for one of them because there are no other third parties which would even have a chance of competing.

That said I think such a party could hold its own. I don't like it when politicians lean too far left, or too far right. I would probably vote for them depending on what they stoof for and I believe others would as well. Moderates always come off as more likeable and generally as being more reasonable as they take parts of both sides. All in all I think such a party would be a good idea and might help straighten out some various problems in the country.

My response: I think Targos's fate hinges on how much Shawford can pay us from the Targos treasury.

A good third party with middle ground ideas is definately something that I would like. Unfourtunatly I dont think there is any chance that it could ever make the good start that would be needed to draw support.

Seems like a case of "You take the high road or the low road, I'll just catch the train."
Moderate policy is an interesting thing. The positive may be that they can see two sides of an arguement and work with it. The negative? Perhaps indecisiveness would be a problem.

We're quite lucky over here. Our right wing and left wing are not leagues apart. Heck, our right wing is called the Liberal Party! What happens over here tends to be this formula...
1. Major Party is elected.
2. This party plays upon its strengths, whilst it's weaknesses suffer somewhat.
3. After some period or rule, the populace chucks out the present party and instates the opposing power.
4. This power sets to work improving the previously neglected areas, but its weaknesses (the other party's strengths) fall into decline. AND SO ON....

One needn't have a Moderate party to achieve democratic balance. This is much like how your body deals with rising osmotic pressure; it's political homeostasis!

Whilst a Moderate party would be nice, I fear that many of the 'undecided' or "I don't give a sh!te" votes would be sunk into it. However, the fundamentals are nice, and perhaps you folk (British and American) need another, more prominent, alternative.
