Good job, you just ruined the 2012 Olympics I dunno if you've heard or not but the brilliants minds at the IOC decided to remove baseball and softball from the olympic games for 2012. I honestly cannot understand why they would do something so idiotic. The only reason that i've seen stated is that it's because the IOC is made up primarily of Europeans and baseball is an American sport so maybe they have something against it. If thats true I think it utterly violates the spirit of the olympics. I really hope that isn't the case but I can't think of any other possible scenario as to why those games shouldn't be included.
At any rate the 2012 games have now been ruined for me. I always loved watching olympic baseball on tv and now they took it away. I don't care if it isn't banned for good, it never should have been removed in the first place. Good job IOC for bastardizing the Olympics.

… I told Lieza the same thing, they were stopped months ago, days before the final vote on the 2012 city, so its old news, we're talking first week of July, about 8 months ago.
However, Baseball has been in the last 4 Olympics, so its just weird why they should take it out. It cant be an anti american thing, because the American Baseball team sucks and is lucky to get into the top 3.

Re: Good job, you just ruined the 2012 Olympics Regardless of how old the news is, its still quite stupid. I can't think of any other reason why they would take away those sports. I don't think it really matters if the US doesn't even do well in the sport itself. Baseball is very American sport to begin with and I think that's one of the reasons why it was removed. I'm hoping something will be done to bring them back because it ain't fair to all the people who put time and effort into the sport only to have it taken away by some arbitrary decision.

… I don't know anything about the Olympics.... But that does seem very unfair. The Olympics is supposed to be something recognized throughout the world, they shouldn't be making one part of the world angry by taking out sports very popular in their country.
The damn IOC wouldn't even consider holding a ballot to try and have the sports readmitted. This entire thing reeks of something bad. What really kills me about all this is that I haven't been able to find a reason as to why baseball and softball were removed to begin with. They must have some personal vendetta against the sports, otherwise I see no reason to remove them. As far as I'm concerned the last summer Olympics end in Beijing.

… It might be the french's fault. France was expected to win 2012, it was a shock result that Britain won (mostly due to support from the 3rd place spot, Madrid ? cant remember). French and US tentions have been high lately, and I can see them bribing people about stuff like this.
The fact the appeal didnt go through is probably most likely a funding one now, no doubt they've already setup the budget, even thought the actual bid was planning to take these two on as well. The IOC ruling to be taken out probably meant a swich of resources, and don't want to reswitch it else we'll get all sorts of problems.

Yeah that could be the case but I don't really think it answers everything. Honestly, how hard would it be to add in two extra sports which were originally planned to be supported. They have about 6 more years to make arrangements so I really doubt that's the reason. If they really wanted it back I'm sure they could arrange it quite easily. I bet if soccer was somehow removed they'd be scrambling to get that back. I realize thats a bit more popular but the analogy still stands.

Anyway, I don't know anything about the Olympics, but I don't get why they would want to remove baseball.. I thought it was a pretty popular sport!
Not that I can tell, or anything. The only thing I know is that we Dutch kick ass at ice skating! And that's all I need to know, lol
One of the annoying things about the Olympics is actualy getting them is all politics, its dirty, money going round, whoring ladies to the people who vote, taking advantage of world problems (till the day after, London was probably one of the "safest" places it could be held in, Russia is increasingly hostile to outside, America is... well you know, spains government switched hands after a terrorist attack etc, while Britain remained a multicultural heaven, no Munich was gunna happen in Britain. Theres also this rumour that every now and again the main countries who fund the olympics win and the vote thing is a complete setup).
So yeah, Olympics = politics. Eurovision song contest = politics. Same old same old.

Re: Good job, you just ruined the 2012 Olympics they probably got rid of it because the olympics is surpose to be sports from all around the world and america probably had loads of theres in there such as basketball. but if thats the case im sure england invented like half the worlds sports so that we could suck at each of them so there should be less english sports aswell.
