Re: Good job, you just ruined the 2012 Olympics The thing is that no-one is interested in baseball, bar Americans and the Japanese.
Baseball and softball won't bring ratings like say, football and the one hundred metres.Hence the reason why baseball and softball have been cut from the program.

I guess you also forgot about Cuba, Korea and to a certain extent Canada. That doesn't even mention all the other Latin American countries which play it. Australia also fields a team and there are a few Austalians who play in the majors in the US. Granted it may not be as popular as soccer, track & field, but its not so unpopular as to warrant its removal.

My response: I think Targos's fate hinges on how much Shawford can pay us from the Targos treasury.
Re: Good job, you just ruined the 2012 Olympics It's a niche sport, limited to a small number of countries, unlike football whcich is played by nearly two hundred countries, why should it be in the Olympics?
Rugby, played by a larger number of countries than baseball, isn't in the Olympics so why should baseball be?
Sports which are unpopular don't get into the Olympics, simple as that. You don't hear me clamouring for hurling or Gaelic football to be included in the Olympics.

Hmmm lets think about this one for a moment. The game is popular in The US, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean, and East Asia. Those areas comprise a lot of people and while the game may not be as popular as other sports, there are literally hundreds of athletes whose goals have been shattered because of this arbitrary decision. The thing that really pisses me off is that they allowed baseball to be played for a few olympics and now all of a sudden they take it away for no apparent reason.

If they wanna put rugby in the olympics then be my guest. I have no objections.

I have a small feeling that baseball is a tad more popular than those.

Re: Good job, you just ruined the 2012 Olympics The only logical reason I can think of for baseball being taken off the program is that baseball wasn't pulling in the ratings that they wanted, nor was it attracting the crowds the organisers would have liked (large crowds suggest a good Olympic Games, without these they are seen as failures).
Maybe it's because baseball doesn't appeal to Europeans,I don't know.
I don't want to see rugby at the Olympics,it's fine where it is.
Aye,baseball's more important than Gaelic football and hurling but I was using those as extreme examples.they'd certainly be more exciting than baseball.

That might be the case but it still doesn't make much sense to me. There are other olympic sports that don't draw huge crowds and yet they are allowed to continue. Like Ace suggested further back in this thread its probably all about politics.

Perhaps to you, but that is purely a matter of personal taste.

I think anyone would find hurling and Gaelic football more exciting than baseball.Baseball is a boring sport.

Tell that to the millions of people who attend baseball games each year. Perhaps you may consider it boring, but to fans of the game it can be very exciting.

Re: Good job, you just ruined the 2012 Olympics Personaly I'd rather keep Baseball just to see the Japanese beat the americans, but meh. Theres still the chinese olympics before in 2008 so its not like there wont be any till 2016.
