… This is actually very logical. Lets see, in the game a Smoke bomb lets you escape from a battle correct? Shadow is a Ninja. Ninja's use Smoke bombs to get away undetected. Its not that hard of a concept.

… I think what he/she means is that Making the place smoked is not smart as he can not see and he will go though the house without being able to see that much.
… I don't think it would matter since if you play that part. He drops in from the ceiling. So I'm highly sure he either broke through a wall or jumped back out.
